Starting Sports

I never played sports in school and have little athletic ability.

I'd like to find a causal sports team I could join to get some exercise and have fun. I don't have any clue though how to go about joining such a team, or if anything like that even exists. I'm mostly interested in playing soccer.

Not really answering your question directly, but I've always found swimming to be a good way to start getting back into shape.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a lower-division soccer team by the way, though I don't really know what the situation in Kansas City is like.

Check with various park districts and community centers. The most important thing is playing with guys who can consider themselves part of a team, and not the level of playing skill. Softball is also a very popular amateur sport if you aren't only looking at soccer. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

It helps to start first at a sport that you have knowledge on how to play.

If not, then it really helps to get a coached team. That really helps.

^I am looking to start a bowling team with my co workers. But I also wanted to do something a little more physically active, like soccer. I just don't know where to find an adult beginners team.

james. most places have 4 square leagues, those are stupid fun/require no skill, and usually are full of pretty rad people. maybe look for a 4 square league, or start one?

i regularly played four square almost every day for the first third of the summer, just with my friends.
chalk, emptyish parking lot, ball. BOOM.
